The Girl in the Mirror
Right… So for Neil Gaiman’s Calendar of Tales, I drew this.
I chose the November story because out of all of them, it spoke the most to me.
In the last year, I have lost two very dear friends to different kinds of cancer and I have another friend who is going in for surgery for uterine cancer on Tuesday.
Watching my friends waste away, become shadows of themselves is one of the things I will never forget. That’s what made this story the one that was the most powerful for me. When Elenore walks past the mirror and sees herself as she once was… I needed to draw it. I had to. For my friends. For myself.
It’s one of the hardest drawings I’ve ever done. And one of the most cleansing.
I hope someone enjoys it.
